Dr. T. Murt Byrne, DVM
Dr. T. Murt Byrne began his education at the University of New Mexico, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology and a minor in Chemistry in 1984. He then graduated from Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences with a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Byrne is currently the President-elect of the New Mexico Veterinary Medical Association, a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and Valle del Norte Veterinary Medical Association. In 2008 Dr. Byrne was chosen as NMVMA’s veterinarian of the year.
When asked why he became a veterinarian, Dr. Byrne said:
"I decided on veterinary medicine for a career at a young age. When I was a kid in Ohio the family spaniel died from distemper. I remember the feelings of frustration and helplessness. I felt that there must be something I could do. Veterinary medicine allowed me to combine my love of animals with my love of science."
Dr. Byrne lives in Santa Fe with his Irish Terrier, Mick, and 4 cats. When he is not working, Murt enjoys watching sports, particularly cheering on the UNM Lobos.
